After learning a life-changing fact about my life, I needed to simply experience it, to allow it to wash over me and what I am. So I created this piece intuitively, and washed myself in the pigment and material of it. I made something that I could learn from in the making and in the looking, and I think it looks to be reaching towards something untouchable.

The forms are influenced by my research on neurons, coupled with explicit expressions of the body. I created them by bending steel with my feet and hands, and then coating it in the same paper pulp I bathed in, dyed black. The sounds, of meditation bowls and the ocean are common signifiers of meditation and two that have become fundamental signifiers of peace to me through experiences I have had all my life—parts of my reality that are in no way shaped by my genealogy, although perhaps my appreciation of them is.

The mind and body are unable to be separated, and it is with both that I process my experience.
