Our emotions can change from moment to moment, but how can we capture these moments? “How Ya Doin?” is an ongoing series of gestural screen prints derived from “doodles” created in response to a variety of specific emotional responses. These “doodles” are the indexical source material of these emotions that were then used to create the film positives used to produce these prints. During the opening which showcased many of these prints, I encouraged viewers to create their own emotionally-derived doodles (to check in on themselves and ask, “How Ya Doin?”) and leave their doodles for other viewers to take later in the evening in an effort to increase peoples’ ability to connect with one another through their art and open up to strangers about their true emotional state.
